Federal University of Pernambuco. Higher education, teaching, research and extension institution located in the city of Recife, state of Pernambuco, Brazil. It was founded on August 11, 1946

Creation

The history of the Federal University of Pernambuco begins on August 11, 1946, date of foundation of the University of Recife (UR), created by Decree-Law of the Presidency of the Republic No. 9,388, of June 20, 1946.

In 1948 the construction of the university campus begins. The design of the campus architectural project was by the Venetian architect Mário Russo.

The first rector of the university was Professor Joaquim Ignacio de Almeida Amazonas, who also held the position of director of the Faculty of Law.

In 1965 the university was federalized and adopts the current name of Federal University of Pernambuco.

The university has 3 campuses:

  • Campus Caruaru
  • Campus Recife
  • Victoria Campus

And it offers 70 undergraduate courses and 175 postgraduate courses, in 10 centers.
