According to INDEXDOTCOM, Oklahoma is a state located in the South Central region of the United States. The region was first inhabited by Native American tribes, including the Apache, Comanche, Kiowa, Arapaho, and Osage. The area was part of French Louisiana from 1682 to 1803 before becoming part of the United States with the Louisiana Purchase. In 1819, the Choctaw Nation became one of the Five Civilized Tribes to sign a treaty with the US government and were given land in what is now southeastern Oklahoma. During this time, settlers began arriving in search of land and opportunity. In 1889, Congress opened up nearly two million acres of Indian Territory for settlement through a process known as “the Land Run” which saw thousands of settlers rush into Oklahoma to claim their stake. This event marked the official founding of Oklahoma as a state and it officially became one on November 16th 1907. Throughout its history, Oklahoma has had a strong influence on music and culture due to its Native American roots and its proximity to Texas and other southern states. It also has a rich history related to oil production with many companies drilling for oil in Oklahoma beginning in 1903. Today, Oklahoma is home to over 3 million people and is known for its diverse landscape which includes forests, plains, mountains and lakes. Check Agooddir for more about Oklahoma.
