According to INDEXDOTCOM, Tennessee is a state located in the southeastern United States. It was first inhabited by Native Americans, including the Cherokee, Chickasaw, and Shawnee tribes. The first European settlers arrived in the late 1600s and early 1700s, primarily from Virginia and North Carolina. The area was ceded to the United States in 1783 after the American Revolutionary War as part of the Treaty of Paris. It became part of North Carolina and then part of the Southwest Territory in 1790. Tennessee was admitted as a state on June 1, 1796 as the 16th state of the Union. During this period, Tennessee developed a strong agricultural economy based on cotton and tobacco production. In addition to agriculture, manufacturing also became an important part of Tennessee’s economy throughout this time period. In 1861, Tennessee joined other Southern states to secede from the Union and become part of the Confederate States of America during the American Civil War. After four long years of war, Tennessee rejoined the Union in 1865 following General Robert E Lee’s surrender at Appomattox Court House. Following Reconstruction after the Civil War, Tennessee experienced significant economic growth throughout much of its history due to its manufacturing industry and agricultural production. The state also developed a strong tourism industry due to its many natural attractions such as Great Smoky Mountains National Park, which is located between Tennessee and North Carolina along with other attractions like Graceland (the home of Elvis Presley). Today, Tennessee remains an important part of American history with a vibrant culture that blends together Appalachian traditions with modern Southern charm. Check Agooddir for more about Tennessee.
